in detail:
Nora has always been extremely liberal. She loves to try new things and wants a broad range of experience. She's gotten a good start, in the past twenty-eight years. Nora loves to listen, but would rather listen to life stories than lecturers and would rather learn by doing. She also loves to talk, and isn't afraid to plop down next to somebody on the bus and strike up a random conversation. She couldn't typically be called bubbly, or goofy, or energetic, but she's friendly, with a wide smile and a willing ear - or if you have nothing to say, she'll be happy to fill the silence.

But as the saying goes, if you open your mind too much, your brains will fall out. Nora is rather unpredictable, flaky, and unable to form a concrete opinion any kind of quickly; she likes to be informed first, which means she'll ask everybody else their opinions first, and then maybe work on her own. It just wouldn't be fair to do it any other way. She has convictions, but they're sometimes too complicated (I believe x, except in the case of y or z...) for her to vocalize so that they make any kind of sense to anybody else. Sometimes they seem to not even make sense to her, as she will, on occasion, end up contradicting herself, flip-flopping on an issue without even realizing it. When called out on it, she'll claim the right to change her mind - evolution is natural, right? Change is part of life.

Her free-spirited, fluid approach to life is well meaning, but fundamentally superficial. Nora has the tendency to scratch the surface of an issue, but move on to the next too quickly to really absorb the true meaning or the lessons learned. She usually ends up making a mistake two or three times before she catches on. This isn't to say she's unintelligent; she has a very broad scope of knowledge, just no real specialty. Her approach to relationships is similar: she's fun and tries to treat others kindly, but never devotes enough attention to one person to develop real intimacy.

She'd like to believe there's good in everybody, but sometimes the harsh realities of the world are too hard for her to ignore; she's seen her share of pain and evil, and thinks it's a damn shame, to put it mildly. Sometimes you've got to do what's good for the majority. When there's no time for reason, Nora runs on sheer gut instinct. Her snap judgments are usually right, if only she'd make them more often.

fears/phobias: Mental institutions, confinement (both social and physical), travel by airplane, something happening to her mother, becoming one of the creatures she hunts (and coming across a Hunter not as "merciful" as she).

mental health: Nora is a social person forced by circumstance into emotional isolation, which takes its toll on her psyche. She tends to compensate for this by forming temporary attachments, and engaging in casual sex in an attempt to substitute physical for emotional intimacy. She has an addictive personality, an oral fixation, and a messiah complex. At several points in her life, starting in her early teens, she has undergone bouts of severe depression. In the hospital after her suicide attempt, she was diagnosed as schizotypal (ideas of reference, odd beliefs/magical thinking that influence behavior, paranoia, lack of close relationships, social anxiety due to paranoid fears, unusual perceptual experiences) which, she maintains, is utter horseshit, as most of it was a direct result of her imbuing.

b i o g r a p h y
Nora was born on June 2, 1981 to Linda Deboeck, a translator for the Belgian government in Brussels. She's never met her father, and has her doubts that her mother even knows which of her lovers at the time impregnated her. He was, in fact, a visiting diplomat, and long gone by the time Nora was born. Nora remained an only child, though her mother married when she was ten. Her mother and step-father encouraged her natural curiosity, and she led a fairly uneventful childhood.

Upon graduating from secondary school, she moved out into her own apartment, eager to discover the world. She enrolled in the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (having grown up in the city's Flemish quarter, and speaking Dutch at home), her degree in philosophy. Or it would've been if she ever finished. Nora kind of got swept up in the nightlife and social scene, and discovered one day about a year and a half into her studies that she was in danger of failing out. So she just quit altogether, taking up more hours at the women's boutique where she sold perfume. She did manage to learn to tend bar, and started doing that as well, for some extra cash. She still bartends, and has held a variety of other jobs, though it's difficult for her to keep them for any extended period of time. That might have something to do with her regular disappearances. Her coworkers assume it's a drug habit. Her friends - those she's managed to keep - have stopped asking where she goes, knowing they'll never get a straight answer.

Nora did fall into that lifestyle for a while, but it hasn't been the reason she keeps disappearing in years. She thought it was the drugs at first, the imbuing - just a series of really bad trips. The drugs did not interact well with it. Terrified, paranoid, hallucinating, and strung out on junk, Nora tried to slash her wrists; she just wanted the visions to end. She woke up in a psychiatric hospital, where they kept her for several months, until she sobered and wised up enough to lie her way out. She wasn't really much more sane than she had been when they'd stuck her in there. She'd actually taken a pretty big blow to her state of mind, her thoughts racing even more than they had previously and hallucinations still plaguing her at random, but they let her out when she stopped acting overtly erratic and talking like a crazy person. She was learning to cope, slowly but surely.

Once she got out, coping was both easier and harder. Now she had to figure out what to do with the knowledge she had. The world was suddenly louder and dirtier and meaner and more complicated and unbearably cruel, absolutely unfair in every way. The internet and her seedier acquaintances were both of help, as Nora began to deal out her unique brand of justice, trying to use what she'd been given to rectify the wrongs she'd been alerted to. Still, she couldn't get over the belief - or maybe just the desperate desire - she clung to that the world couldn't be all bad. Nothing was all bad; there were no absolutes. She's justified it a thousand different ways in her mind, sometimes acting as an agent of good against evil, sometimes an agent of mercy toward the damned. How they acted toward her determined how they died; it was only fair, that they got to choose. It was no skin off her nose, and maybe it did them some good, brought a little good back into the world. If it didn't, well, it took a little more evil out of it. Other hunters don't typically care much for her philosophies, as she walks the middle ground, but if they don't respect that, they can have a look at her body count.
